OUR OBJECTIVES

The Milton Theatre Management Committee has determined the following objectives to guide its activities for 2003-2005:
1. Provide diverse cultural activities to enrich the local community
2. Promote the use of the Theatre for community events
3. Retain the heritage building as a viable community facility 4. Progressively upgrade the facilities and equipment available to performers
5. Responsibly manage the facility utilizing community resources

Objective 1:  Provide and promote diverse cultural activities to enrich the local community

- Source a diverse range of performance artists, including drama and music events
- Develop relationships with promotions companies, traveling theatre production companies and arts sponsorship bodies to promote the theatre and its facilities as a viable venue
- Investigate and apply for grants and funding for sponsorship through government programs to promote regional arts
- Seek feedback from the local community about the nature of events that they would like to see held at the Milton Theatre
- Promote theatre performances using a variety of media, including local flyers, posters, newspaper advertisements and stories, radio interviews, a regularly updated website presence and push emails to subscribers and interested community members.

Objective 2:  Promote the use of the Theatre for community events

- Liaise with local community groups to ensure that they are aware of the facilities the theatre can offer
- Publicly display the hiring charges for the Theatre in the foyer
- Place information about on the community board adjacent to the Theatre

Objective 3:  Retain the heritage building as a viable community facility

- Negotiate with Shoalhaven City Council for budget allocations to progressively implement the prioritised recommendations of the Conservation Management Plan (June 2003)
- Submit an annual maintenance and facilities management plan to the Shoalhaven City Council with associated costs
- Liaise with Council regarding repairs, maintenance and other expenditure necessary to maintain the heritage value of the property
- Maintain effective building security
- Ensure appropriate disability access is functional and efficient

Objective 4:  Progressively upgrade the facilities and equipment available to performers

- Maintain a prioritised list of equipment requirements to improve the theatre’s utility
- Develop a sponsorship scheme to allow local community members to contribute to the progressive upgrade of the Theatre
- Allocate surplus funds throughout the financial year to the purchase of priority equipment items as agreed by the Theatre Management Committee

Objective 5:  Responsibly manage the facility utilising community resources

- Encourage participation by a diverse range of community members in the management and operations of the theatre
- Encourage participation and development of volunteer skills in managing sound and lighting equipment, catering, promotions and ticket sales
- Promote awareness of the management committee about negotiating performance fees, based on established cost structures
- Develop a format for reporting on event viability, including estimating fixed and variable cost structures
- Manage finances to ensure the continued profitability of the Theatre
- Develop and maintain a maintenance program, consistent with Shoalhavene City Council budget requirements
- Establish an ongoing revenue base from a patronage scheme for the Milton Theatre
- Attract sponsorship from individuals and business to fund specific initiatives
- Conduct an annual review of hiring charges to ensure future viability of the facility.
