Deborah Conway is recognised as one of the country’s most articulate and individual voices, with a career that has encompassed recording, performing and writing songs for over 20 years.
Her resonance as a serious contributor in the musical community has remained undiminished since her band Do Re Mi topped the charts in 1985 with their song Man Overboard. And with each successive project she continues to attract a large and fiercely loyal following and critical acclaim for both her live performances and recorded work.
Deborah is one of those rare artists who are constantly reinventing themselves. The new album Half Man Half Woman is no exception, with long-term partner and collaborator, Willy Zygier they have written their most seductive offering of songs yet, rendered with warmth and charm.

BRUCE MATHISKE - Guitar Virtuoso
8pm
Fiery fretwork, delicate harmonics, notes exploding from both hands to the tenderly caressed all culminating in the rhythmic virtuosity of Guitar Maestro Bruce Mathiske's live concert.
Expect an entertaining night of stringed excellence with infectious rhythms from far flung corners of his guitar as well as Mathiske's engaging, humorous persona as he returns in concert to release his new CD. This kicks off his National tour which sees Bruce perform in tradional venues such as halls and arts centres but also utilising some truly beautiful and unique venues including cathedrals and chapels which showcase the guitar in its truest form.
Bruce's many eclectic & various music influences from his world travels and guitarists from the likes of Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, Leo Kottke, BB King, Barney Kessell and Al Di Meola have evolved into an exciting style all his own. His albums and concerts are a mix of many rhythms and moods, add to this Didgeridoo and Mathiske surpasses expectations at every turn, audiences are gob smacked at his ability to play bass, rhythm and melody simultaneously.
"A model demonstration of guitar virtuosity and richness of Mathiske's musical palette. Marvel at the speed of his playing on Nashville Express with its hints of country. Be amused at how, with Slipstreaming and Caribbean Daze, he could easily be a member of Jimmy Buffet's band. And, as he wanders around the region, see how effortlessly he embraces smooth Latin sounds with Havana Nights and the richness of Spain and Mexico with El Martes Gracioso. Mathiske is quite simply, a great guitar player. Bruce Elder - Sydney Morning Herald

Three parts Oils, one part Femmes make THE BREAK
It’s been a long time between drinks for Midnight Oil fans. The only gigs in the last eight years have been at the Wave Aid and Sound Relief charity concerts. These exhilarating performances prompted a strong desire in drummer Rob Hirst and guitarists Martin Rotsey and Jim Moginie to start making music together in a new form. With that we introduce you to THE BREAK.
In what might at first seem an unlikely union, the three founding members of Midnight Oil are joined by Brian Ritchie bass player of US band Violent Femmes. The Oils of course have their roots in the surf pubs of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The Femmes on the other hand hail from Milwaukee Wisconsin. What is not so well known however is that the two bands have shared a history, a friendship and even a tour manager for over a decade, having met when they both played the inaugural ‘Earth Day’ concert at Columbia’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’.
When Ritchie recently moved to Hobart Tasmania the stars were aligned and the four got together for a jam in Jim Moginie’s studio. Kicking off with an old Link Wray track ‘Rumble’ (made famous in the movie Pulp Fiction) the sound that emerged took on an energy of its own and the new band was born.
THE BREAK bring a sheer raw vitality and phenomenal force to the surf rock genre. Their powerhouse sound does of course have that unmistakable whiff of Oil but unlike anything the band has done before.
The new band released its debut album ‘Church Of The Open Sky’ in April on the Bombora label through MGM, the album is a unique blend of pulsating psycho surf rock tunes featuring 15 mostly instrumental tracks. The bulk of the album tracks are named after legendary surf breaks.
THE BREAK explore new horizons and obscure influences whilst tipping the occasional nod to 60’s legends such as Ennio Morricone, Joe Meek, Link Wray and Dick Dale as well as the psychedelic musical meanderings of San Francisco’s Mermen with whom Ritchie has played on numerous occasions.
Although surf music has very traditional boundaries, to quote Brian Ritchie “We’re not following those parameters. We understood it was a surf theme, but no music is fun if you are too much of a purist about it, or if you set too many constraints. You have to have some freedom.”
“It’s always been music with energy that I’ve been attracted to,” adds Rob Hirst. “Drummers like the Who’s Keith Moon - the rolls he did on toms - all that was influenced by the same surf drummers that I’ve liked or going back even further, to people such as Gene Krupa, who inspired them”
Indeed, freedom and breaking rules is what the music of THE BREAK is all about. The dynamic musical interplay between the four members ensures that the music itself is fresh and not overly produced.

JAMES REYNE TRIO
8pm
James Reyne is one of Australia’s most loved singer songwriters. James led the seminal Australian Crawl to the top of the Australian music scene.
With his prolific songwriting and unique vocal style, James Reyne continued to chart the musical path he initiated in the last stages of his former band's career, achieving further success with his solo career, releasing 9 solo albums to date.
James hasn’t kept himself entirely in the studio or at live venues; his other projects have included hosting Dig TV for ABC 2, acting and some interview/hosting for various Foxtel VH1 specials. James recordings also feature on two Children's books ( Mr Froggy Went A Courtin’ and Save The Bones For Henry Jones ).
In the first half of 2010 James released a special CD titled “ TCB “ and celebrated that with some exclusive theatre concerts “ James Reyne Sings The King “ where he’ll exclusively perform material from his TCB release along with other “Elvis” material - more will be revealed on this as the year unfolds.
James’ song-writing coupled with his idiosyncratic vocal style, has enabled James to transcend the disposability of music industry fashion and carve his place in the musical landscape of Australia.
“ The man who wrote the great Reckless is an accomplished lyricist, capable of lovely detail and nuance an on this ( Every Man A King ) his eighth solo album, the words and imagery are as strong as his best work. And that voice just gets better. “ The Age Preview Mag, Peter Wilmoth.
“ It’s 21 years since Australian Crawl split up and the former frontman is as quirky, smart and inventive as ever. Reyne is a delightfully eclectic performer. You never get bored by his recordings “ Sunday Herald Sun, Bryan Patterson.
“ Reyne makes mature-age rock that is consistently interesting “ David Costello Daily Telegraph.
